Life Science is a subject that offers the basic understanding about the animals, plants, microorganisms as living resources of Mother Earth and the abiotic factors related to these living beings. Life Sciences also describes the biotic world’s structure, function (physical, physiological, metabolic and biochemical), ecology and socio-economic aspects. This subject takes the students through the fascinating world of various techniques and technologies used to study the multifaceted aspects of life. The course includes animal and plant sciences, microbiology, biochemistry and biophysics, molecular biology and applied genetics, all of which enable the students to strengthen their knowledge in respective branches and understand the scope of the subject as an employment opportunity.

Over the years the Department has developed a modest academic infrastructure comprising laboratories with Common Instrumentation Facility (CIF). The Department has dedicated laboratories for the different specializations offered at the Masters level. The working of these laboratories is monitored by the faculty of the Department.  The changing trends and challenges in imparting education has encouraged the department to include on- line teaching and learning content. Microbiology is a very advanced and latest form of educational subject included in the education arena. It includes study of various kinds of microorganism and their life cycle. Amalgamation of biology and technology is biotechnology, a fast growing and evolving field in science. Biotechnology scenario in the world is changing rapidly and dynamically.

This subject is primarily concerned with agriculture. In this course, students learn about plant biotechnology, one of the most recent technologies for making fertiliser. In addition to teaching scientific abilities, the course also educates how to market agricultural products. In this course, students are exposed to rural areas in real life so they can comprehend the issues that farmers and rural residents face and come up with solutions.

The department has well qualified teaching and non teaching staff, well equipped labs and a well established research field with in campus premises to provide practical training in different aspects to Agriculture students. A well-established Vermi compost unit for cultivation of organic farming. We have separate blocks for cultivation of some other crops like mustard, wheat, bearley, vegetables and flowers etc. Our main demonstration blocks contain more than 100+ species of different ornamental plants, most of the species of fruit plants from temperate and subtropical regions. Mushroom cultivation lab, Soil Testing facilities and collection of butterflies and other insects pests in Entomology lab are some attractions of the department.

Physics is a branch of pure science, dealing with the study and analysis of physical phenomena that take place around us, the nature of the forces responsible for them, and accurate measurement of the physical parameters involved, their interdependence and the laws governing them. This leads to a better understanding of the universe we live in.

The laboratory sessions are intended to give the students a hands-on experience of the experiments that enable the verification of the knowledge gained in the theory classes. A degree with physics as one of the optional subjects equips a student to pursue a career in teaching. There is a plethora of research opportunities available in various research institutions available in various Research Institutions of National repute and placements in Research and Development Departments of Scientific Organizations. Faculty of the department are involved in several major and minor research projects and the research interest spans a wide range of topics in experimental and theoretical research.
